Water for Life South Punjab – No. 4

Jampur, District Rajanpur: A widow in this remote area lost her husband in a road accident in February, leaving her to care for her young children under extremely difficult circumstances.

Her home had no electricity, no proper water supply and no washroom. To make ends meet, she works in agricultural fields for around Rs. 500 a day, while raising her small children.

Thankfully, the Hamza Baig Welfare Society, through its Water for Life initiative, has helped resolve at least the family’s water crisis. A household water facility has been established, and women from the surrounding community can also collect water from the same source.

The need for safe drinking water in the region remains severe. According to the welfare initiative, around 80 percent of people in the area rely on saline or arsenic-contaminated water, exposing communities to serious water-related health risks.

The organization also highlights concerns about severe illnesses, including kidney failure and cancer, in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan. Many families in these underserved communities cannot afford regular medical treatment, further increasing their vulnerability.

The Punjab Government has also begun taking measures to address the region’s water and public health challenges.

The Hamza Baig Welfare Society expressed gratitude to everyone supporting the initiative and prayed that Allah Almighty accept this effort as Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) for the benefit of the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
