In the event of an emergency, prior preparation is crucial to minimize losses. In case if flood in Jhelum is a case in point, and preparations to mitigate its effects have already begun. A meeting of the District Emergency Board was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Jhelum, Syeda RamAllah Ali, where all relevant department heads participated. The District Emergency Officer, Engineer Saeed Ahmed, presented a detailed briefing on the possible scenarios, resources, and damages. The Deputy Commissioner issued necessary instructions to the relevant departments and also sought prompt action reports. Furthermore, practical field exercises were conducted to assess the coordination between departments. Regarding the Jhelum Flood Protection Embankment, it was emphasized that its protection is essential. A comprehensive plan was prepared to ensure its safety and prevent unauthorized traffic. Later, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue, Dr. Hassan Tariq, Assistant Commissioner Jhelum, Mubeen Ahsn, District Emergency Officer, Saeed Ahmed, and PDMA District Incharge, Saboor Saqib, formed a coordination committee to oversee the efforts. Hamza Beg Welfare Society is a member of the District Emergency Board and has always been at the forefront in times of crisis, whether it’s the Kashmir earthquake, southern Punjab floods, or COVID-19. The society will continue to work alongside the district administration to serve humanity in emergency situations, God willing.
